High school is one of the hardest times in an adolescence life. Teenagers are going through hormonal changes, making life decision like where they want to go to college and where to work, and dealing with a shifting relationships with friends and family. So why would anyone want to take on the job of teaching kids in this age group?
Well, one of the reasons that teacher decide to teach high school classes is that the teenage years are some of the most influential years in a child’s life. During the high school years kids start to determine who they are and who they want to be. They start to figure out what they might want to do for the rest of their lives and how they might want to get there. Because of this, teachers can be very influential in teenager’s lives. Teachers can start to help children find what they are interested in.
Another reason to teach high school rather than other grades is that teenagers are starting to develop their own opinions on subjects. Discussions with students in highschool can be interesting and in depth. The material that teenagers are taught is often engaging giving teenagers the opportunity for them to express themselves and form their opinions.
Working with high school students also gives teachers the opportunity to be more than just a teacher for their students. Teachers can help their students make decision like where to go to college or if they want to continue working or join the military. Teacher then are not only teacher but guidance consulars.
