Location is the most important factor you could ever consider when buying a home. You cannot let your emotions talk you into buying a house if you have not fully analyzed the location factor of the home you’re about to buy.
Okay, so you love the sparkling kitchen and the homey fireplace. The master bedroom makes you swoon, right? When you buy a home, you need to forget about the new patio or the three-car garage. The most important thing to consider when you buy a new house is location.
Why is the location so important? Think about it. If you hate a home’s exterior, repaint it. If you want a whirlpool instead of a shower, replace it. You can remodel an entire home, but you can’t pick it up and move it.
If you hate your neighbors, if you hate your neighborhood, if you feel unsafe, if you feel unwelcome, you’re going to hate your new house. End of story. It won’t matter how large the closets are. All that will matter is that you are unhappy where you are. Consider your commute time. Consider the school district, the crime rate, and nearby locations. Is there an airport, hospital, fire station, police station, or train station near your home? Expect a ton of noise. What’s nearby your neighborhood? If your neighborhood is utterly charming, what’s three blocks away? How close is the “bad part” of town? Is the neighborhood outside of your price range? Do the neighbors seem to truly care about their community? Are many neighbors looking to sell?
The only way you’ll learn about a community is by spending time there, so do your appropriate research.
